Simmons University presents Love Superior, a Death Supreme featuring work by sisters Caitlin & Nicole Duennebier. Caitlin’s narrative illustrations and Nicole’s classically-rendered still-life paintings intertwine to create strange and fantastical vignettes.

Love Superior, a Death Supreme will be on view from February 7 – March 18 in the Trustman Art Gallery, located on the fourth floor, Main College Building, 300 The Fenway in Boston.

Join us in the Gallery for an opening reception on Valentine’s Day, Thursday, February 14, from 5 – 7pm. The Gallery will also host the Duennebier sisters for an artist talk on Tuesday, February 19 at 6pm.

Caitlin Duennebier works in a variety of media including drawing, painting, sculpture and more. She uses her unique, illustrative style to create a cast of strange characters that populate scenes both amusing and menacing. Duennebier studied at Massachusetts College of Art and Design where she received her BFA in Photography and at the University of the Arts, London, where she began OH PAPA, a platform for her illustrative work. She currently lives and works in Watertown, MA.

Nicole Duennebier is a painter whose highly detailed work is reminiscent of 17th century still life painting … with a twist. Her lush paintings feature an extraordinary mix of objects evocative of fruit, slices of meat, coral, flora, polyps and more. Duennebier received her BFA at Maine College of Art with a major in Painting. In 2006 she was awarded the Mohegan Island Artists Residency and was a Massachusetts Cultural Council Painting Fellow in 2016. She now lives and works in Malden, MA.

Together, the Duennebier sisters intertwine their distinctive imagery, figures and narratives, combining their disparate styles to conjure fantastical wonderlands. Love Superior, a Death Supreme will feature both their collaborative and solo work.

Trustman Art Gallery hours are 10 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, 10 AM – 7 PM on Wednesday and Thursday. The gallery is free, open to the public and wheelchair accessible. For more information, contact Kyle Mendelsohn at (617) 521-2268 or find us on Instagram.
