Simmons University presents All Good Things featuring work by Greg Lamarche. This exhibition traces the evolution of Lamarche’s collage practice and spotlights his main influences of graffiti, design and letter forms.
All Good Things will be on view from September 3 – November 1 in the Trustman Art Gallery, located on the fourth floor, Main College Building, 300 The Fenway in Boston.
Join us in the Gallery for an opening reception on Thursday, September 12, from 5-8 pm. The Gallery will also host Lamarche for an artist talk on Thursday, September 26 from 6-7:30 pm.
A mini-survey, the show will include collages, drawings, assemblage, ephemera and other source materials. Letters are the main subject of Lamarche’s collages and he draws upon the color, movement, repetition, layering, fragmentation and negative space of these forms to create works ranging from abstract to literal.
Inspired by the dynamism of his native New York City, Lamarche uses found materials to abstract graffiti’s visual language. His precise, hand-cut paper collages use layers of bold colors, shifting perspectives and rhythmic repetition to melt the directness of graphic design with the aesthetics of fine art.
In 1981, Lamarche began writing graffiti on the streets and subways of the world; in the early 1990s, he first published the seminal graffiti magazine Skills. He has worked as both a fine artist and graphic designer since 2000, and has been featured in numerous publications including the New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Boston Phoenix, Print, Juxtapoz, Modern Painters, The Financial Times and Arktip among others.
Trustman Art Gallery hours are 10 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and 10 AM – 7 PM on Wednesday and Thursday. The Gallery is free, open to the public and wheelchair accessible.
