Simmons University presents “Simmons University Studio Faculty Show,” Sept. 8 to Oct. 1 at the Simmons University Trustman Art Gallery, fourth floor, Main Campus Building, 300 The Fenway. There will be a reception from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 16. The event is free and open to the public.
An exhibit of the Simmons University Studio Art Faculty will inaugurate the 2004-05 Trustman Art Gallery exhibition season. The exhibition includes Edie Bresler, B. Lynch, Bob Oppenheim, Helen Popinchalk, Wendy Seller and Vaughn Sills.
Edie Bresler uses her 4 x 5 camera on her visits to Walden Woods and the environs of Concord to continue her investigations of photographs beyond verisimilitude that conveys what she discovers to be the enigma of landscape.
B. Lynch, whose installations have recently been shown at the University of New Hampshire and Hood College in Maryland will exhibit work in a variety of media in which she continues to use the prism of history to examine the route we have taken on our public March of Folly.
Bob Oppenheim, a 2004 Massachusetts Cultural Council grant recipient in painting continues to develop the combination of sewing and painting which was represented in his recent exhibit Hanging by a Thread.
Helen Popinchalk’s paintings and drawings appropriate elements from her environment: snippets of overheard conversations and bits of television garble, which translate into lines of text, amorphous shapes and imaginary figures.
Wendy Seller’s paintings represents life as she sees it using a highly personal iconography inspired by diverse sources such as current events, social commentary and relationships. Recently she exhibited with Vaughn Sills at the Milton Academy, Milton, MA and at the Lenore Gray Gallery in Providence, RI.
Vaughn Sills will be represented by photographs from her Beyond Words series recently exhibited at the Photographic Resource Center. These images convey a sense of the beauty, mystery and miracle of the natural world while encompassing aspects of fragility, decay and death.
Trustman Art Gallery hours are 10 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and 10 AM – 7 PM on Wednesday and Thursday. The Gallery is free, open to the public and wheelchair accessible.
