Three Boston area photographers, Darlene DeVita, Jennifer Edwards, and Corrine Schippert, will showcase their work of one of life’s greatest passages, the wedding, Feb. 5 to March 16 at the Simmons University Trustman Art Gallery, fourth floor Simmons Main Campus Building, 300 The Fenway. A Valentine’s Day reception for the Wedding Show will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 14. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
Personal and public events, momentous and mundane have been continuously documented by both amateur and professional photographers. ortraits commemorating birthdays, marriages — and in the 19th century — death, have been among the most frequently photographed subjects. In the era that preceded photography, painters were commissioned by wealthy patrons to create marriage portraits.
Following this tradition, wedding photographers are faced with the challenge of satisfying their client’s desires and their own aesthetic goals. Working in what is usually an emotionally charged environment, these photographers participate in every aspect of the wedding: private moments of preparation, the ceremony, and the reception.
Trustman Art Gallery hours are 10 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and 10 AM – 7 PM on Wednesday and Thursday. The Gallery is free, open to the public and wheelchair accessible.
